FROM INDY SLOTS TO INDY RC
The scale changed.
The passion never did.
Indy RC is believed to be Indiana’s longest-running dedicated scale-racing facility. This is how a south-side slot-car track grew into today’s raceway and hobby shop.
Indy Slots opens
The business began as Indy Slots, a dedicated slot-car racing facility on Indianapolis’ south side.
More ways to race
By early 2007, racers could enjoy an outdoor off-road course, an outdoor dirt oval, indoor carpet RC racing, and the original slot-car tracks.
Indy RC takes shape
The business began transitioning from the Indy Slots identity to Indy RC Raceway & Hobbies as radio-controlled racing became a larger part of the facility.
A focus on indoor racing
By June 2013, both outdoor dirt tracks had closed as the facility concentrated more heavily on indoor carpet racing. The original slot-car tracks later continued their story with Innovative Slots.
Hobby RC joins the raceway
After Indy RC’s previous owner retired, Hobby RC purchased the raceway. Bill Pennington combined both businesses at the established South Emerson Avenue location, pairing the track with broader inventory and hobby expertise.
The hobby shop expands
Indy RC expanded into the neighboring suite. The shop moved into the added space, creating more room for inventory and a better-stocked destination for racers and hobbyists.
Built to persevere
Indy RC made it through the disruption of COVID-19. During the period that followed, a solid subfloor was installed beneath the main carpet track for a smoother, more consistent racing foundation.
A dedicated 1/28 track
A separate RCP track opened for Mini-Z and other approved 1/28-scale vehicles, adding even more opportunities for practice and racing.
The tradition continues
Off-road, onroad, oval, and 1/28 programs share one climate-controlled home with a full hobby shop and a community that welcomes the next generation.

The main track’s subfloor rebuild was a major investment in a smoother, more consistent racing surface. These photos show the framing, the first finished carpet surface, and the completed track racers use today.
